Precut Wood Frame Homes. This category includes wood-framed factory-built houses or cabins where building materials are factory-cut to design specifications and transported to the site to be assembled. In this category PrefabExpo presents prefab building kits designed as wood-framed (also known as balloon-frame, 2 x 4, 2 x 6 or stick-built construction) as well as prefabricated home kit / cabin kit using post-frame method. The homes or cabins must meet local or state building codes of the area where they will be sited.
Post Frame. These buildings are designed to allow treated timbers or columns to be set directly into the ground, eliminating the need for concrete foundations. A concrete slab can be poured inside the structure after completion.
Round, usually creosote-treated poles are used as primary supporting member for the sidewalls and roof systems of the structures, with 2x4 lumber placed on edge as purlins, making it possible to place the roof rafters and trusses from 4-to-10-ft. apart and the roof purlins at about 2-ft. apart. This building method eliminated much of the structural material used in other methods and reduced the costs. From barns, garages and agricultural buildings to commercial, community and residential structures, the old "pole barn" of yesterday has now evolved into a viable method of post frame construction that is not only fast, energy efficient and affordable, but beautiful as well.
